Welcome to the new FGT Site!

Welcome to the first blog entry of FGT’s new website.  For those of you who may have just surfed in, my name’s John Stewart and I’m the lead pastor here at FGT.  Others reading this already know who I am … but they’re reading along anyway!

FGT is in Leamington, ON, the southernmost part of Canada.  Summer has come late to our town this year, but last week it finally arrived, and it has been über hot here ever since.  It was 34 degrees Celsius last week.  That’s 93 Fahrenheit if you’re from the States.  And the humidity was high too, which made for a couple of very uncomfortable days.

With all the humidity and the heat in this region, there are also multiple tornado warnings throughout the summer, as the hot and cold air collides.  You can hardly go a day or two without some warning of thunderstorms, or a tornado alert.  When a tornado hits, we are told to go to the safest place in the house, and hunker down until the storm has passed.  It would be just plain stupid to run into the heart of the storm while the winds are whistling away.

I was thinking today that in a similar fashion, when we get all uptight and heated about some incident or another – when we allow our tempers to flare, and our emotions to ignite – when we lose our cool - then we too are prone to stormy conditions and dangerous relationships.  If we try and fix the situation while we are emotionally charged then we are just looking for trouble.  Why not step back, find a safe place and let the winds die down before venturing out to deal with whatever it is that has angered us?  That’s one way to avoid being wounded by whatever it is that is flying around, and a sure way to avoid hurting others too.

I started out talking about the summer, and although there are way too many things going on at church this summer to list them all here, but I do want to mention a couple of events.  Pastors Mark and Cindy are putting together a fantastic week of VBS, and are looking for as many as possible to get involved.  If you’d like more details, give them a call at 519-322-2046, ext. 225.  And finally, don’t forget to pray for the upcoming missions’ trip to Guatemala.  We have almost 30 people participating, leaving the first week of July.  You can still help them out by bringing in supplies, or making donations to the cause.  Call Pastor Nathan at 519-322-2046, ext. 222.

Thanks for reading.  Surf on in again another day, and see what’s new.
